This is my experience with upgrading to iOS 10.
After your phone updates, you’ll have to sign on.
Okay, sounds simple, right, because it is what you do anyway.
Nope. Instead of the number keypad, you’ll hear letters in place of where the numbers are.
That is simple if you know what letters correspond to your numbers, but difficult if you don’t.
I thought I did, but seems I’m off a peg.
My advice is to get help, or disable your pass code before you start the upgrade.
I wish I’d known this, but I did not.
Some of you will be okay on it, but some won’t.
If you type your password wrong 6 timesin a row, you'll have to reset your phone.
That requires that you've used iTunes to back it up, or can use iCloud on a computer. The last method is the recovery, and that won't work for us.
If your phones your only source, hold off until you can get an assist if this all makes you nervous.
Just thought I’d share.
strange. It didn't do any of those things with the public beta. Silly of apple to break it now. Well, glad my eyes sort of work.
Hmm, or drag your finger around the screen and find the number you want, in relation to the rest.
Here's the numbers and letters:
1 is just 1, it's the top left anyway.
2: a b c
3: d e f
4: g h I
5: j k l
6: m n o
7: p q r s
8: t u v
9: w x y z
The 7 and 9 are iffy, technically 7 is p r s and 9 is w x y.
I may or may not update after work.
If the phone still works and isn't sluggish after the update, I'll probably forego upgrading to a new phone for a year, as Apple store just replaced my iPhone 6 with a brand new one on account of a swollen battery -- was pushing up the screen.
Thanks for the tip.
What I eneded up doing was typing it in as relation to where the number would be on the screen.
You see, it doesn't give you enough time to fool around for some reason.
If you're slow, you can continue, it stays were you left off, but that may be a problem.
I'm good now, but for some it may be a pain.
Another friend told me they had no problem, so maybe it was just 6S, or me.
We all know when it comes to this, iPhones sometimes act differently.
Leo, it won't be sluggish.
I like all the new features related to the 3D touch.
I'll be upgrading, so I'm interested to see how the 7 works with all the new stuff for it too on Friday.
Good luck to all that do.
Over all, I think 10's a good OS.
Hmm, I didn't have that problem.
Wow. I was on the public bata, so never experienced that particular issue. I'm sure they'll fix it promptly though.
it's a relief I can't update to 10. haven't even updated my old 4s. :d it's still running ios 9.1 me thinks. might update soon with brother's help.
I did have the problem so thanks Wayne. And I find 10 pretty nice, and I'm on an iPhone 6. Since it runs so well, I'm putting off upgrading my phone till next year. After all, I just bought my wife and daughter both phones. And my 6 is brand-new since they had to replace it.
Some people got the issue of the devices locking completely.
That was similar but not exact to my experience.
This has been fixed they say.
Sia it is suggested that if you don't have a 6 and up, you probably shouldn't update.
Some are experiencing issues.
10 has lots of features specific to the 6 and up models, so that is probably why older phones aren't handling it as well.
Cool Leo. You knew about it, so weren't surprised and had to curse and have a few beers.
Laughing.
I didn't have any beer, so I just had to curse.
Works good after the storm, but again, I just advise disabling the codes before you start, and backing your device up.
I got nothing, no speech at all when I tried to enter in my passcode. I just swiped around a little, and finally they spoke.
That was another thing.
It is there, you just have to wait until it comes back around it seems.
I didn't have anyone here visual, so I am not sure it it was there and just not talking, or that if you waited to long it goes away and comes back up.
That was another thing, and it took me a bit to figure out how to make it come up.
Once I understood, fast touching got me in.
Now it's fine.
Wow! Everyone I know seems to have had one sort of issue or another when upgrading based on what people have told me and what I read on twitter. Am I really the only person who had no issues whatsoever with my updating experience? Everything went pretty smoothly for me. I didn't get the weird number/letter thing you all were talking about, didn't have the over-the-air issues that some people mentioned experiencing. The only thing that I can think of that I might've done that none of you might not have done was after the update was complete, I didn't start setting up my phone right away, because I was doing a couple of other things. I went to it like ten minutes later, and the setup process was pretty much like it was for other major releases.
I didn't even need to set my phone up.
After I figured out my letters as related to the right numbers, all my settings were there, and it was working as it always did.
Just needed to sign in was all.
Yes, lots of different experiences.
I figured this one might give some of us a problem however.
Maddog, you are not the only one who had a smooth experience--I too, had a smooth experience. Like you though, I had to set up my phone again, as I've always had to when a new update has been installed.
I had a smooth experience, and for the first time I can remember, I did not have to set up my phone again after installation. So far I am very impressed with this new update. The past few releases contained show stopping bugs for me on Day 1, so it was nice to be back to the party on the first day this year with a release I am very excited about.
I had no issues at all
I had no issues either, even with the beta software. Only real issue I had was with KNFB reader crashing every time I took a picture, but they have since fixed that. Have to say the new 10 is really great with a 6 s+. 3d touch has been improved and using it while sliding around the screen makes it feel like the phone behaves when vo is turned off. rreally helpful for scrolling when vo gestures don't work. new magnification feature is also pretty great, though a couple 3rd party apps are still slightly better.
I'm finding iOS10 to be really quite nice. I'm thinking I might just find surprising new features for awhile. Lol. This whole new way of being able to move apps around, for instance. It's now in the actions menu once you double tap and hold.
And, I like this extra page 1 with all your upcoming events, recent apps, search, etc. Pretty nice.
You don't even have to double tap and hold to move apps. Just swipe up or down on the app and it will allow you to do it.
Sweet!
I'm still using a 4S with IOS 6.something. I haven't upgraded because I heard (and perhaps I'm wrong) that higher versions of IOS would slow an older phone down.
Now, I don't obviously have IOS 10, or a new phone, so I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have two quick questions.
1. I'm thinking of upgrading, and a friend of mine is thinking of selling me an iPhone 6 with iOS 10 on it for about $240 American. Is this a good deal? Should I take it? The phone is about two years old and she says it's never had a problem; it comes with an Otterbox case that has a scratch on it but is perfectly sound. Everything else is in good shape.
2. Is there any enormous changes between IOS 6 and IOS 10 that are going to screw with me, anything I should really know before I make the jump?
Once again, apologize for asking in here but thought it might be quicker than starting my own thread. Thanks in advance.
200 is a fair price provided it is in good condition.
No crack screens, and such.
The 6 works well with 10, so you'll have no problems with it.
Make sure you tell your seller, if find my iPhone, or any other security function is left on, you'll want a refund unless the information is provided.
Without this, the phone will be useless to you.
If you use PayPal, use pay after delivery, so if all isn't correct, you don't pay.
Thank you, Wayne. We have an Extreemely good apples store. I will have them help. I need someone from there to help id some keys on my Magic keyboard, also. That's how I enter my password.
Blessings,
Sarah
